Software manufacturers do not provide updates to torture us or to annoy us or to be an inconvenience. They provide updates to help make the software run as smoothly and effectively as possible. As users provide the software manufacturer with feedback, the manufacturer is able to identify problems and hopefully solve those problems. They way that they make sure everyone gets the benefit of the fix is through the updates.

So, are those updates really that important? You can probably manage without them, but there is no need to. It would be like walking around with a rock in your shoe—you can manage, but it’s a lot more comfortable if you take the time to just remove the rock.
